Neptune's Cave
The Neptune's Cave (Grotta di Nettuno) is a fascinating sea cave located near the town of Alghero, Sardinia. Carved by the relentless force of the sea over thousands of years, this impressive limestone cave boasts a labyrinth of breathtaking formations, including stalactites, stalagmites and crystalline underground lakes. The most popular way to access the cave is to descend the 654-step staircase known as the 'Escala del Cabirol', which in Catalan literally means 'staircase of the roe deer' and offers a panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea. Alternatively, it is possible to visit the cave from the sea. Boat tours depart from the port of Alghero and reach the cave by sailing between the beautiful cliffs of the area.
