Santa Barbara cave is located inside the San Giovanni mine, which is why, once discovered, the cave was named after the patron saint of miners: Santa Barbara. The cave was discovered by chance in 1952 during the excavation of a well. In this cave, until then unknown to the scientific world because of its hidden location in the heart of the mountain, there are rock formations dating back 500 million years.

This fascinating site can be reached through an intricate system of underground tunnels made accessible by a small train which, after crossing the tunnel at an altitude of 150 metres above sea level (after a distance of 700 meters from the entrance), leads to a lift which ascends along a shaft.

From here, to reach the cave, all you have to do is to climb a spiral staircase to find yourself in an enchanted world created by water over millions of years.
